Pa. House considers more changes to slots lawRight now the house of Representatives is in debate over the changes to the Pennsylvania gambling laws. They are considering rejecting certain parts of the new legislation that was passed in the late September. The house is thinking about proposing some changes, but it is still unclear rather or not the changes will be approved. They still agree that indoor smoking should be banned, but it also took away the gambling interest of public officials, unless it was a mutual investment. The house wants to go in a different direction now. They want areas in Pittsburgh and Philly to be part of the zoning. Many of the PA Representatives, including the House Majority Leader, is not sure what the senate will do since they first bill was made and passed by the senate. Staying positive, A Representative from Jefferson County is keeping positive about the new changes and he believes that the changes will be a positive change as well. The house and senate also disagrees on the policy for gaming board members. This would prohibit members from voting on license judgments if it presents a conflict of interest for them. Senate would like to bar a member from voting for applicants that are competing for the same gambling license. The senate is outraged by many of the new changes that the house has presented and the senate will have the last vote sometime before the current election. The senate fills that that house is trying to undo everything that they have done to create the new bill. The bill that was passed in September allows 61,000 slots at fourteen different sites. Both versions of the bill, will not make the casino purchase their slots from a middleman, however, the senate wants to get rid of the requirement now and the house would have the slots pulled out as soon as the distributor license expires. Some say that this is a way for the smaller businesses to make some money off the gambling market. Some say that is it a way to bring business further into politics. Copyright (c) Fortune Slots
